Unexpected show

Futbol, Soccer

This weekend I left to Austin with The Collegian newspaper (Houston Baptist University). We arrived thursday night to the hotel. As we were settling in i noticed the gym so I put on my gym clothes and jumped on treadmill. There was a small tv on the corner of the room so I started going through the channels. The San Jose Sharks and LA Kings were playing nothing better then a late night rivalry game. The first period ended I was checking other channels durning intermission and I quickly came to a stop.
I couldn’t believe it! It was Pele! He was on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. He was promoting his new book Why Soccer Matter. Jon Stewart started talking about the World Cup and how he is a USA fan and how hard its going to be this year since they are in a difficult group. Then he asked the best question ever “Pele do you remember the 1950 World Cup?” Oh his face was priceless! Pele tells him “I was about eight or nine years old and I remember seeing my dad crying I couldn’t believe it because my dad always said men dont cry so I tell my dad, dad dont worry I will win a World Cup for you.” Jon started laughing and then he tells him “oh was it not Uruguay that beat yall” and Pele just nodded his head. Then Jon tells him “I hope its Brazil and Uruguay again in the final and yall beat them so you can have revenge.” Pele just smiled and said yeah yeah. I was enjoying every moment he was smiling in the outside but dying in the in.
I could tell it was not a subject he wanted to talk about but it was just so sweet to see his reaction. It amazes me it will be 64 years since that happened but it marks every Brazilian that lived that moment and even the the generations after. I cant wait for this World Cup. It’s going to be a
amazing. There is so much history I cant even imagine the energy Maracana will have in the final if or when Brazil makes it. And that’s your playbook for the day.

Size of the gym at the Hotel it was all to myself.

My high school dream

Uncategorized

It’s been six years since I graduated from high school. Wow even typing that felt long. Ever since I was in high school, I dreamed about becoming a professional soccer player. Well, as you can see, it didn’t happen. In 2006 the University I attend now added the soccer program. I was so excited I told my self: “I’m going to play for the team.” Unfortunately, I went to a high school where there wasn’t to many scouts going to games. We were not a recognizable school when it came to soccer.

Now that I am attending the University I wonder how it would have been if I did play for the team. I have been to a few games and yes, I do miss playing, I miss the sun hitting my face, the smell of freshly cut grass, when we lose as a team, when we win as a team and the moment you step on the field and nothing else matters.

But I do have the privilege to be the sport editor of the school newspaper and there is nothing else I would want to do.

I play soccer every Sunday with a group of family and friends and I couldn’t ask for more. We have intense games and sometimes we just goof around but one thing I love most is we all think we are professional players that’s why I love soccer. Sports in general you don’t have to be a professional to know how it feels to score a goal for your team. Yes of course there is something’s you can’t compare like having 80,000 screaming fans and for a split second the world stops because you just scored a goal for your country to win the most prestigious trophy in sports.

But when it comes to loving the game there is no difference. I actually know people that love the sport more then the professionals that play it, but that’s a topic I will write about later.

I really wanted to be a professional soccer player in high school but little did I know I am one every Sunday and that’s your playbook for the day.

Not Entertaining Enough?

Futbol, Soccer, Sports, Uncategorized

Last tuesday I was driving to school and I hear on the radio that they are thinking of taking away the extra point kick in football. I thought to myself humm that’s interesting then I hear that the reason why they are changing it is because the extra point is not entertaining enough. Why do they keep changing football trying to make it better, it was already at its best.

This is one of the reasons why American football will never reach a world audience like football/soccer/futbol/ the beautiful game in other words the real football. (lol) American football started in 1869 since then its been changed about 42 times compared to soccer that has changed about nine times. American football is to focus on entertaining the people then just playing the sport. Football use to take two hours I been in games that lasted four.

I understand the extra point is not the most exciting part in football but I wouldn’t want eliminate it completely. They could make it longer so it could be difficult for the kicker. Football needs to go back to the basics stop trying to “entertain” the people. Sports are entertaining enough let people fall in love with football without all the glitz and glam that we try to add and that’s your playbook for today. 🙂

The Top Eleven addiction

Addicted, App Games, Futbol, Nordeus, Soccer, Sports, Top Eleven

It all started a couple of months ago when my fiancee started playing a game on his phone. I asked him “what game are you playing?” and he told “oh its some football (soccer) managing game.” I didnt ask any more question thought that it was pretty cool but I soon started realizing how in to it he was. We would be at church and he would tell me “dang i got a game right now.” (lol) but he was not able to play. So I decided ok let me see what all the fus was about so I was able to download it on my tablet. At first I was not sure how to set it up and I ended up being a Chinese manager based in the United States (lol). I started to get the hang of it now i cant put it down here are some screenshots (finally upgraded my phone and downloaded it)

Here you can see you ranking

I am currently in 2nd place in the League. Unfortunatly, I am no longer perticipating in Champions or the Cup tournaments.

It really has been an addiction I wake up first thing I do text fiance good morning  (lol) and check my team. The game is very realistic  players get hurt you need to train the to get stronger. Its takes day’s to build something for your stadium. The game times can be 4am or 5pm its very random. Your players get yellow and red cards and you can even buy and transfer players. You can also arrange friendly games with other players. I really recommened downloading it if you are a soccer fan. It’s a European based game but, let’s show those Europeans that Americans can play futbol too and that’s your playbook for the day.

USA World Cup

Futbol, Sports

I’m writing an article in the school newspaper about how the US national soccer team has made the World Cup. In this blog I will do the same but write little bit more of my opinion. I’m truly excited for the U.S to make it again for the seventh straight time, but I’m hoping they make it past the round of 16. I love the beautiful of football it’s the perfect game and I don’t mean American football but the real fútbol. You probably just stop reading my blog lol but it’s true the rest of the world calls it football not soccer. The US team really needs to step it up and focus more on there game, continue working together as a team. In reality the US team has it real easy to qualify, unfortunately not all the Central America teams have enough resources to train there teams like US does. That’s really the main reason why year after year US os getting better. But once they start the World Cup we can see that they are still far from teams like Uruguay, Brazil or Argentina and that’s not even mentioning European teams. US soccer has come a long way but there is still much to learn. As of right now I don’t see the US team going far but you can never underestimate any team that is what I love about the game fútbol.
